The Eiffel Tower lights up for Pink October

Monday 25 September 2023

Modified the 26/09/23

For the launch of the annual breast cancer campaign, the Eiffel Tower will be illuminated in pink.

On October 1, 2023, the Eiffel Tower will be lit up in pink, as it has been every year since 2014. The pink illumination will last all evening on October 1, replacing the usual golden lighting, from 10pm until 00.45 pm. There will still be the sparkles, a favorite feature of the Parisian sky, during the first five minutes of every hour. A color that suits the Iron Lady perfectly!

With the City of Paris’ active support, the launch of “Pink October”, the major breast cancer information and awareness campaign, takes place in Paris on the evening of October 1. This year, the launch of the campaign takes place on the Champs-Elysées, and along with the Eiffel Tower, 2 other parisian buildings will be lit up in pink : the Arc de Triomphe and the National Assembly.

Launch of awareness month

On October, 1, the Pink Ribbon Foundation inaugurates its awareness campaign organized all throughout October, each year with a different theme and powerful message. In 2023, the theme is about the importance of research, saving lives.

The yearly “Pink October” campaign offers an opportunity to shine a light on the fight against breast cancer for an entire month:  information, prevention, early screening, etc. Many initiatives and events across France are offered to women, thanks to the many actors mobilized. It is also a time to showcase the efforts of doctors and researchers, as well as all those committed to the fight against breast cancer. The “Pink Ribbon” awards reward and support initiatives and innovations in all areas.

With 60,000 new cases per year in France, breast cancer remains the number one cancer for women and the deadliest. When detected at an early stage, 9 in 10 women recover within 5 years, hence the huge importance of prevention.

A look back at the Pink October 2022 and 2021 launches near the Eiffel Tower. During these festive and hopeful events, the Pink Ribbon Foundation showcases a parade of women affected by, recovered or in remission from breast cancer, with choreography by Mehdi Kerkouche and live music by Martin Solveig (2021) and Ofenbach (2022).
